Creative Media Specialist
Raymond Gilbert Jr. is a creative dreamer with a deep passion and love for music. He is a native of Ash, North Carolina. He grew up singing in church all his childhood and developed a love for music. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. During his time at UNC Pembroke, Raymond has served as the university Drum Major for 3 years straight, served as the President for the Eta Beta Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Fraternity of America, Inc. for 2 years, and was a Chancellor Ambassador.
Since graduation, Raymond took his love for music and brought his talents to Max Abbott Middle School in Fayetteville to serve as the orchestra director. He wanted to help children learn to play musical instruments and develop a love for music. During his tenure at Max Abbott Middle School, his program earned 4 superior ratings in the annual North Carolina Music Performance Adjudication for Orchestra. Now, Raymond works at his alma mater, where he serves over 200 international students in the Office of Global Engagement at UNC Pembroke.
Raymond has been married to Jaelyn Wilson (Soprano) for 2 years. They share a puppy named Zoe. He sends love to his two younger brothers, father, mother-in-law, and most importantly, his mother, who inspires him to do great things with his life. He also has a podcast called “The 2nd Phase Podcast” on YouTube with his college friend Eric. Raymond is happy to be a part of this great organization and looks forward to serving as one of the Creative Media Specialists.
